Rabat – Algeria’s Ambassador to Rabat was summoned Tuesday to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, which conveyed to him Morocco’s “strong disapproval,” following the alleged expulsion by the Algerian authorities to Moroccan territory of more than 70 Syrian nationals, said a ministry statement.

Ms. Mbarka Bouaida, Minister Delegate to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, summoned the Algerian ambassador on Tuesday morning to the Ministry “to express the strong disapproval of the Kingdom of Morocco, following the expulsion by the Algerian authorities to Moroccan territory, between Sunday 26 and Tuesday 28 January, of more than 70 Syrian nationals,” the statement added.

“While calling on Algeria to fully assume its responsibilities, Morocco deeply regrets this inhuman act, especially as it affects women and children in a situation of extreme vulnerability,” the statement added.

The ministry stressed that “the Moroccan authorities have immediately provided the necessary assistance to the Syrian citizens at the border with Algeria.”
