Rabat - Moroccan Delegate Minister to the Minister of Foreign Affairs gave an interview on Thursday to American channel Fox News. The interview was conducted on the eve of King Mohammed VI’s meeting with American President Barack Obama.
King Mohammed VI was received yesterday by President Barak Obama in the Whitehouse.
This historical visit attracted the attention of most American media, which talked a lot about the purpose behind this visit and the future cooperation set forth between the United States and Morocco.
Before the meeting took place, Fox News Channel interviewed Mbarka Bouaida, Morocco’s Minister Delegate for Foreign Affairs & Cooperation.
The Moroccan Minister Delegate spoke with KT McFarland on FOX News Live’s “Defcon 3” about the much anticipated meeting between Barack Obamaand King Mohammed VI and the purpose of this visit.
Mrs. Bouaida explained that the visit of King Mohamed VI to Washington is part of a bilateral effort to "strengthen first the longstanding relationship we have with the USA.’’
"Second, It came to find new ways of corporation, especially in terms of politics, security, social, and cultural spheres,’’ she added.
Mrs. Bouaida, shed light on Morocco's experience dealing with the Arab spring and how the country chose a different path based on political reforms.
She said: "Morocco has started its reforms a decade ago. And we have very strong essence of a nation for centuries."
She also highlighted the reforms put in place by kingdom and that were hailed worldwide and looked at as a model in the region. "We have started reforms, not only political reforms but also social and economic reforms, aloud as to get more plurality and more equity and reconsideration within Moroccan society. And that’s why we are talking about morocco as a model in the region. And that’s why morocco has very strong stability, and security in the region."
Morocco enjoys a friendly and respectful relationship with all Arab and African countries for its balanced and neutral foreign affairs strategy. Morocco is seen as a model in the Arab world, as a monarchy that has started all its values and shared them with the population for years and centuries.
“The king is very close to the population. And one of the reasons why we have started the reforms is his proximity to the population and the fact that he invested a lot on closest policies and social policies," the Minister of Delegate stated.
McFarland, who was surprised that a very young woman was given responsibility and appointed as Minister delegate in a part of the world where women usually do not have enough opportunities, asked Mrs. Bouaida how did Morocco secured the country from the instability that spread all over the MENA region.
And as a response on the journalists’ questions, the young Minister said that Morocco has been aware of the security threats in the region.
"We adopted a multidimensional security approach based first on human and social development. Because we believe that one of the main reasons that push people to extremism is the lack human development," Mrs. Bouaida said.
She went on to say that "the second approach of [Morocco's] security strategy is based on reforms; not only political reforms, but also strengthen all our institutions through very deep reforms such a social reform in general."
