Rabat - 11 young Moroccans died on Sunday in an unguarded beach in Bouznika near Rabat. The 11 athletes belong to a Karate team made up of 24 people.
The victims were swimming and enjoying the nice weather when they were taken away by the waves.
The services of the civil defense and the royal gendarmerie, in addition to local authorities are searching for the missing kids using two helicopters and several inflatable boats.
The victims are part of a 46-people group from a sports association in the province of Ben Slimane, mainly children aged 12-17 who were taking part in a field trip to the region.
An investigation was opened under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor's office.
The accident happens less than two months after a terrible road accident claimed the lives of 33 athletes in southern Morocco.
