Casablanca - Who would have thought that the story of Ray, the hopeless little dog, could touch so many hearts?
A week ago, Ray was just an ordinary stray dog who was found by students in Lissassfa, Casablanca with the tell-tale signs of abuse and neglect. Ray was taken for treatment at a local veterinary clinic.
“I never thought that he would live. The first day I saw Ray, he was just a skeleton,” said Dr. Elkohen Kaoutar, the treating vet who took Ray under her wing. Dr. Kaoutar and her staff treated him and miraculously watched him spring back to health.
Ray has received a second chance and thanks to the efforts of everyone who helped, he is able to walk and eat and his health condition is improving by the day.
The string of caring continued after an outpouring of support from those moved by his story after the dog’s plight was shared on social media.
The page “Justice for Ray” has 19,000 people who are following Ray’s case and who are simultaneously calling for a reform to animal abuse punishment in Morocco.
As long as those who committed this terrible crime against Ray are not punished these type sof acts will be repeated.
Aziza Nait Sibaha, the Founder of the French animal welfare association “Comme chiens et chats” launched a petition online:
The petition has been addressed to the head of the Moroccan government, Mr. Abdeililah Benkirane and explains that crimes towards animals are unfortunately still unpunished which creates total immunity for abusers and recommends campaigns of sterilization and vaccination for stray dogs rather than killing them in the streets.
