Rabat - A Moroccan notary had disappeared after allegedly swindling millions of dirhams from her clients and fleeing to the United States.
The notary abandoned her notary practice and her clients, allegedly fleeing to the United States as a millionaire, according to daily newspaper Al-Sabah.
She allegedly misappropriated millions of dirhams worth of clients' money, including individuals and real estate developers.
Each time her clients come to her office to claim their money, they were informed by a trainee notary that she was traveling abroad to heal from cancer.
According to Al-Sabah, the notary's repeated visits to the United States were meant to prepare for a permanent residency there, which she finally obtained.
Despite a legal complaint filed against her on January 13th, the notary could still manage to move between Morocco and the United States, according to the same source.
The clients claim that the notary had accomplices at the borders, especially at the Casablanca Mohammed VI International Airport.
The trainee notary is also involved in the case, the source said.
