Madrid - Spain lauds serious and credible efforts made by Morocco to reach a solution to the Western Sahara issue, said the joint statement issued after the 11th Morocco-Spain high level meeting held on Friday in Madrid.
The two countries commended the adoption in April 2015 of UNSC resolution 2218 on the Sahara issue, said the statement, issued at the end of the meeting co-chaired by heads of governments of the two countries, Abdelilah Benkirane and Mariano Rajoy.
The two parties recalled the importance of resuming talks on solid bases, pursuant to resolutions and parameters set by the UNSC, it added, noting that Rabat and Madrid laid emphasis on the spirit of compromise and realism to reach a consensual, mutually-acceptable political solution.
The two sides agreed that solving this long-running dispute and fostering cooperation between AMU member states will contribute to the region's stability and security, the source said.
