Rabat - Soumia Benkhaldoun’s ex-husband, Abdellatif Bouzidi, is reported to be “very touched" after the media buzz caused by his ex-wife and her new fiancé, Habib Choubani, the Minister Delegate in Charge of Relations between Parliament and Civil Society.
According to the Moroccan Arabic daily Assabah in its May 8 edition, the ex-husband of the Minister Delegate to the Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research, and Executive Training, said that the media coverage of this unprecedented romance between the two ministers and its implications in the government has harmed him.
"Choubani destroyed me," Benkhaldoun’s ex-husband was quoted by the daily as saying.
After the couple announced their plans to get married to the public, some leaders of the Justice and Development Party (PJD) were reportedly dissatisfied with the decision of the two PJD ministers.
Abdelilah Benkirane recently expressed his discontent with the romance.
Benkirane said the relationship has tarnished the image of the PJD, as it served as a golden opportunity for political rivals to sharply criticize the Islamist party.
The couple, whose engagement has stirred controversy in Morocco and abroad since Choubani is already married, has decided to postpone their wedding plans until they leave office.
