Rabat - The U.S. ambassador to Morocco Mr. Dwight L. Bush said that the unfortunate events taking place in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) increase the importance of the strategic dialogue with Morocco.
Speaking to Al Jazeera, Bush said Morocco is a strong strategic partner of the United States in fighting violent extremism and terrorism.
He added that his country is seeking to accompany Morocco in developing economic infrastructure to help curb unemployment rates among the youth, so they can focus on work instead of wasting their time and become susceptible to foreign powers and influences.
Bush also said that recent consultation held a few days ago in Washington between the two parties included conducting joint military exercises known as the African Lion, which he described as "the largest military maneuvers carried out by the United States in Africa.
Asked about what Morocco can offer his country, Dwight Bush said that the United States needs qualified partners in the region and partners who can set an example.
"What I find interesting in Morocco is that it represents what a moderate Islamic state should be," Bush said, adding that "It is very important that you have a safe house in a neighborhood that suffers turmoil."
He said that the United States shares King Mohammed VI's vision of transforming Morocco into a gateway for companies and businesses willing to invest in the African continent.
"The other opportunity for Morocco is to be our partner in trying to help other African countries," he added.
