Rabat - Tanzania is moving towards the withdrawal of its recognition of the so-called Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic founded by the Polisario Front, Le360 reported.
The President of the ruling party in Tanzania, Abdulrahman Kinana, held talks on Monday with Rachid Talbi Alami, the President of the House of Representatives.
According to sources quoted by the French-speaking website, negotiations are underway for withdrawing Tanzania's recognition of the so-called Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic.
The same source said Dodoma, Tanzania's capital, is seeking to normalize relations with Rabat through the recognition of the kingdom's sovereignty over its southern provinces.
As of 2014, the so-called Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) has been recognized by 84 UN member states. Of these, 39 have since "frozen" or "withdrawn" recognition. In Africa, only 15 out of 52 countries continue to recognize SADR.
