Morocco: FBI Interrogates a Salafist Held in a Prison in Fez

Rabat - A Belgian Salafist of Moroccan origin currently held in the Bourkayz Prison in Fez was reportedly interrogated by three agents from the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI).

According to Al Sabah daily newspaper, three members of the Moroccan Judicial Police (BNJP) accompanied the FBI agents along with an interpreter to interrogate the Belgian Salafist who is sentenced to 20 years in prison on terrorism charges.

The same source added that the interrogation lasted two hours and it is believed that the questions revolved around the Belgian Salafist connections with Afghan extremists and his role in recruiting candidates for Jihad in Belgium and France.

The Salafist was born in Anvers, Belgium, on July 28th 1979 to a father who immigrated to Belgium.

The daily newspaper added that he had entered on a hunger strike to protest what he said was injustice from the administration of the Kenitra prison where he was initially detained before being transferred to the Bourkayz Prison in Fez.
