Rabat - The Daily Mail ranked Morocco among the world’s most dangerous holiday destinations for women.
The British newspaper rounded up a number of popular destinations that solo female travelers should visit with caution. The newspaper described Morocco as a country “where women may be exposed to misogyny, pestering and, in some cases, danger.”
According to the same source, Morocco has a poor women’s rights record, and female travelers are advised to dress modestly and cover up in the conservative Muslim country.
The newspaper added that “although the Foreign Office advises that violent crime isn’t currently major issue, it’s common for female tourists, particularly those travelling on their own, to be routinely harassed by men.”
The Daily Mail also warns female tourists from travelling to Egypt. “In the aftermath of the 2011 revolution the country has been gripped by instability and an unprecedented wave of sexual violence against women,” the newspaper said.
India topped the list as the most dangerous holiday destination in the world. According to the Daily Mail, in India, gang rapes of local women and tourists have reached worrying levels in parts of the country with reports suggesting that a sexual assault is reported every twenty minutes.
The Daily Mail’s list also included Brazil (2nd), Turkey (3rd), Thailand (4th), Colombia (6th), South Africa (7th), Mexico (9th), and Kenya (10th).
