Taroudante- The Moroccan House of Representatives plans to enact several measures to assure the presence of all MPs during sessions of parliament. The measure would include wage offcuts for those who are absent without a valid reason.
According to Alyoum24, Rachid Talbi Alami, President of the First Chamber of Parliament, aims to put into law several punishments to fight absenteeism in the meetings of parliament, including wage cuts for absent parliamentarians, which may reach MAD 1300 ($140) for a session.
The Rules of Procedure for the House of Representatives, which have been appropriately validated by the Constitutional Council (in particular Articles 68 and 69), provides for sanctions, including wage cuts, against parliamentarians who are absent without excuse.
Article 98 of the Rules of Procedure for the House of Representatives states that the deputies should attend all public meetings, and those who cannot attend must address a letter to the President of the Council with a valid excuse, prior to the plenary session.
The article also allows for control of the presence of Representatives in any way approved by the Office, including calling them by name.
