Rabat -A newly formed ISIS-linked terrorist cell in Morocco has been reportedly dismantled on Sunday by the Moroccan Police Department. The cell was based in Meknes prison Toulal 1.
A terrorist cell in a Moroccan prison has allegedly worked in coordination with the Islamic State in Iraq and Levant (ISIS). It mainly consisted of Salafist prisoners in Toulal prison, located in the city of Meknes.
According to the Moroccan Arabic daily newspaper Almassae, a special security team paid an unannounced visit to Toulal 1 prison on Sunday, in order to detain some Salafist prisoners for questioning over their alleged ties to ISIS.
The special security team has transported the suspects from the prison to an unknown destination, according to the same source.
The Moroccan Secret Intelligence Services’ reports said that the terrorist cell had reportedly been coordinating with the Islamic State in Iraq and Levant via the Internet.
Last week, a terrorist group called Consolidation and Jihad in Northern Africa pledged allegiance to the Iraqi self-proclaimed Khalifa Abou Bakr Al Baghdadi, the head of the ISIS. In addition, the terrorist group made a death threat against the Moroccan Minister of Justice and Liberties, Mustafa Ramid.
Earlier this month, the Moroccan police department announced that they had dismantled a terrorist cell that allegedly worked, in coordination with other terrorist organizations affiliated with Al Qaeda, to supply Syria and other areas of conflict with combatants.
