Moroccan Rkia El Moukim sets women's at Hy-Vee Road Races

Taroudant, Morocco - Moroccan runner Rkia El Moukim set a new record in the women’s half marathon at the Hy-Vee Road Races on Sunday at Drake Stadium, USA, finishing the race with a time of 1:11:18.

A few weeks after winning the semi-marathon of Marrakech, Moroccan El Moukim set a course record to win the Hy-Vee Road Races in the women's half marathon.

According to Desmoinesregister, El Moukim's time is “believed to be the fastest time ever run by a woman in Iowa.”

The Moroccan athlete’s time broke the previous record set by Russian Svetlana Zkharova in 2001 by a 23-second margin, which earned her $12,000.

El Moukim, originally from Ifrane, was happy about her time as well as the prize money.

"Now I can buy a car," El Moukim said to Desmoinesregister.

"Working hard for that money is not easy. I've been training hard for this," she added. Image may be NSFW.
