Fez - FC Barcelona president Sandro Rosell is to resign in the aftermath of a Spanish court's decision to investigate the signing of Brazilian striker Neymar last year, Spanish sport newspaper El Mundo Deportivo said on Thursday
According to El Mundo Deportivo, Rossel has been mulling over quitting his position several weeks ago, with his relatives trying to convince him that it was time he quit. The same source added that heavy pressure and threats he and his family received, are the trigger that pushed him to resign.
An emergency board meeting of the Catalan club has been called for at 6pm (1700 GMT) local time, after which Rosell will hold a press conference and announce his irrevocable resignation.
On Wednesday, Judge Pablo Ruz issued an order to open a hearing to investigate Barcelona for the alleged misappropriation of funds over the 57.1m euro signing of Neymar.
Rosell will be replaced by his Vice-president Josep Maria Bartomeu until the end of his current mandate, which will expire in June 2016.
