Taroudant- The Oukaimeden ski resort, located about 80 kilometers from Marrakech, Morocco, has been ranked among the top 100 resorts in the world by the American channel CNN.
Ahead of some famous stations for winter sports in the world like Saulire, Three Valleys in France, and The Back Corries, Nevis Range in Scotland, the Moroccan ski resort came in the 86th position.
The Africa's highest ski resort is located 10,000 feet above sea level on Grande Combe, Jebel Attar in the chain of the Atlas Mountains near Jebel Toubkal, the highest peak in Morocco.
The American channel said that “the resort is one of the world's most bizarre places to ski or snowboard”
“There’s just one chairlift but locals often opt for a donkey ride to the top of the ungraded runs, the majority of which start from the peak of Jebel Attar,” CNN said.
The Stash, Avoriaz ski resort in Haute Savoie in France came on the top of the ranking.
"My favorite run in the world is The Stash," Becky Menday, a member of Great Britain's Freestyle Snowboard Team, was quoted by CNN as saying.
The majority of ski resorts included in the CNN top 100 are located in Europe and the United States.
Morocco and South Africa are the only two African countries included in the ranking.
In snow season, Oukaimeden has all the facilities you find in a typical European resort, yet with reasonable prices, and snow is reliable from January until late March or April.
To come up with this list of some of “the world's most exhilarating ski runs,” the American channel CNN relied on the expertise of a professional panel, including Andrew Weibrecht, Olympic medalist and U.S. ski team member, John Stifter, editor at U.S. ski bible Powder magazine, Mike Douglas, the godfather of free-skiing and creator of the world's first twin-tip ski, and Nicola Iseard, editor of the UK's top ski magazine, Fall Line.
