Taroudant – The Moroccan news website Goud published today very important documents that allegedly confirm that the former Health Minister and a member of Istqlal Party (the Independence Party),Yasmina Badou, transferred huge sums of money to France in order to buy an apartment overlooking the Champs Elysees in Paris, one of the most expensive strips of real estate in the world.
In an interview with the Moroccan daily Annas on Thursday, Yassmine Badou dismissed Benkirane’s accusation and said that she only owns an apartment in the French capital.
“I don’t have two apartments, I only have one and it is not luxurious,” she said.
She went on to add that she had bought her apartment 15 years ago, before assuming any public office.
As shown in the above document, the amount transferred was estimated to € 900,000 (about $1,228,230).
Speaking at the monthly meeting of the House of Representatives on Tuesday, and in response to a question from the Istiqlal MP Kenza El Ghali, the Prime Minister Abdelilah Benkirane angered members of Independence party, when he tacitly referred to the “Parisian apartments owned by Yasmina Baddou.”
Whether she bought an apartment or two in Paris and regardless of the amount she transferred to Paris, the bottom line is that, if confirmed, the accusation levelled by Benkirane against Yassmina Badou, constitutes a brazen breach of the Moroccan law.
By virtue of the Moroccan law and depending on the kind of activities they intend to engage in overseas (tourism, emigration, studies, pilgrimage, business, etc) the sum of money that Moroccans can transfer varies between MAD 10,000 ($ 1,300) and MAD 200,000 ($ 26,000) per year.
