The Moroccan university ranks first in North Africa ahead of three Egyptian universities (Alexandria, Cairo and Mansoura University respectively), 3rd in the Arab world, behind two UAE universities, namely United Arab Emirates and American University of Sharjah and 6th in Africa.
The Peking University in China, founded in 1898 as an imperial university, topped the BRICS & Emerging Economies Rankings of 2014.
This ranking is the result of an assessment of more than 700 universities from 22 countries, based 13 criteria (the same as those used in the The World University Ranking) covering all core missions of a world-class university - teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook.
Founded in 1978, the University Cadi Ayyad takes its name from one of the seven saints of Marrakech. The university branched out to Marrakech (eight institutions), Essaouira one institution), Safi (three institutions), and Kalaat Sraghna (one institution).
Among the specialties these institutions offer are technology, engineering sciences, economic, legal and social arts, medicine and humanities.
