Moroccan famous actor, Hmidou, dies

Moroccan actor, Hmido

Rabat- Moroccan actor Hamidou bin Masood , known as "Hamidou," passed away on Thursday at a hospital in Paris, according to MAP news agency.

Hamidou was undergoing a treatment in Paris over the past two months, after his health condition worsened.

Hamidou , born in August  2,1935 in Rabat, started his artistic career in theater in France along with Madeleine Renaud and Jean-Louis Barrault , through Jean Jenet playwright in 1961.  Hmidou made his first steps into cinema that same year with the famous French director Claude Lelouche. His cinematic career was extensive, Hmidou was featured in films in France, Morocco and the United States .

In 1969 he took part in his first Moroccan film the "Sun of Spring" directed by  Latif Lahlou. He later took part in several other Moroccan films. He famously played the main role in the movie "Lalla, My Love" by Mohamed Abdel-Rahman Tazi in 1997.

In 2011, Hamido was featured in the fourth part of the successful French soap-opera "Aisha," which was directed by film and current French Delegate Minister in charge of Francophonie Yamina Benguigi. In his entire career, Hamidou participated in forty distinct roles in feature films and dozens of TV movies.

The late Moroccan artist won the award for Best Men's role in the International Festival of Rio for his role in the film "Life and Love and Death " directed Claude Lelouche (1969). In 2005, he received the testimonial Award at the opening ceremony of the International Film Festival in Marrakech, Hamidou is survived by his daughter, actress Souad Hmidou . He was 78.
