Ramadan in Morocco: Religious Beliefs, Mechanical Prayers, and Sinful Acts

Fez – During Ramadan, thousands of people attend Tarawih prayers and frequently read Quran for religious insight. However, when Ramadan ends, many go back to their old habits, while others repent. Religion has become a culture, and people focus only on mechanical practices that do not reflect their daily interactions.

How many Ramadans have we witnessed, and how much progress have we made? It seems ridiculous that God, who created the universe, is in dire need of our prayers more so than our actions and initiatives to serve the welfare of human beings and make the Earth a better place.

It is clear that God is the greatest, and free from the needs of the world. Indeed, religion was created to organize people and make them live better lives. If people did not exist, religion would have no use. Unfortunately, the divine message was distorted and politicized. Religion has become a source of trouble.

Religion was originally created to stop people from harming each other.

Religion encourages people to focus on projects that cherish and value co-existence and hard work. It is a tool to organize people to progress as a civilization and fight poverty. In other words, does it make sense to brag about being labeled ‘religious’ while attending prayers when corruption in all its forms spreads the country? How devoted is one that lets the poor, destitute, and marginalized people struggle to merely survive?

Many people insult God by spreading debauchery and degrading society by night, while attending prayers in mosques, wearing white clothes, and growing beards by day. Even drug dealers and dangerous criminals proclaim themselves religious.

Recently, a rich food wholesaler was caught in Fez. He was known as a revered man of religious values. The extreme irony is that he was found guilty of buying outdated food at low prices to sell to shop owners, earning huge sums of money in the process. Worse, he offered outdated meals to orphans and considered it charity. It leads one to wonder how many people were affected by his poisonous food and how much this practice serves to make him a real Muslim.

No doubt scientists, whatever their religion is, have relieved the hardships of millions of people on Earth. They have created medicine, vehicles, gadgets, materials, and more. Their purpose is to enlighten our life, save the human species, and bring about happiness. It would be insane to underestimate their work because of their religious beliefs.

Real religion has no name, nor does it necessarily have one. It suffices to contribute to the advancement and well being of humans. The almighty God will judge our actions, not our affiliations. Developed nations have become successful providing job opportunities, health insurance, quality education, and better living conditions. They co-exist and enjoy God’s blessings. Are these not the pillars that people should diligently work to achieve? What is important is that they respect each other. Their relationship with God is their right and responsibility, and no one can meddle with it. Only God can judge His people, and one person’s freedom stops when another’s starts.
