Washington- King Mohammed VI is set to visit Washington, D.C. this fall as per President Obama’s invitation this past spring.
Sources acquainted with preparations of the visit in New York told MWN that the visit will take place most likely in October.
The two heads of state will continue to strengthen U.S.-Morocco relations with in-person meetings regarding the future of diplomacy and strategic relations between the two nations.
Such a visit would contribute to strengthening the bonds of friendship and cooperation between the U.S. and Moroccan governments and be a significant step in strengthening diplomatic relations between the two countries.
The visit will also, presumably, seek to promote rapprochement between Morocco and the United States over the Sahara issue, especially after the telephone conversation that took place between the Moroccan monarch and his U.S. counterpart in May.
The parties agreed during that phone call to strengthen the bilateral consultations between their governments and to promote personal contact between them on a regular basis.
They also agreed on the need to give special importance to the cooperation in defense and security issues and the fight against terrorism. In this regard, during their phone conversation, President Obama expressed his desire to deepen dialogue with King Mohammed VI on topical international issues, particularly regarding Syria, Mali and Palestine, given Morocco's experience in these issues.
The King’s visit to Washington will be the first face-to-face meeting between the two heads of state.
