Fight Breaks out Between Moroccans and Sub-Saharan Immigrants in Tangier

Rabat- A fierce fight broke out between a group of Moroccans and immigrants from Sub-Saharan Africa on Monday evening in the Boukhalef neighborhood of Tangier.

The confrontation began after an illegal immigrant, reportedly from Senegal, had problems with his landowner concerning the apartment where he was living.

Following the incident, some Moroccan citizens living in the same neighborhood took to the street to protest against the Senegalese citizen, who refused to leave the apartment. The protestors demanding the authorities intervene to expel him and all the other sub-Saharan immigrants, who “create problems.”

The conflict, which broke out after the Iftar meal, would have turned bloody if the authorities had not intervened immediately to disperse the protesters.

Last year, a Senegalese illegal immigrant was beaten to death and 14 others were injured in a bloody fight that broke in the Boukhalef neighborhood of Tangier between sub-Saharan African immigrants and dozens of Moroccans, who joined the fight to defend a fellow Moroccan.
