Rabat- A wholesaler of expired products in Fez, Morocco, has reportedly been financing the so-called “Islamic State”, also known as ISIS, the Interior Ministry reported on Sunday.
Thorough investigations carried out by Moroccan authorities revealed that the perpetrator, S.A., who was arrested in Fez on Monday, June 15, had been working with an organized team to fund travel expenses for extremists set to join ISIS using funds they had acquired from the sale of expired foodstuff.
Investigations also show that the defendant’s involvement in the recruitment of Moroccan fighters for the terrorist organization, the same source said.
According to the same source, the investigations led to the discovery of other counterfeit stores belonging to the suspect’s company in several cities of the Kingdom. Authorities found similar expired food products and others whose preemption dates were fraudulently altered and ready for sale in neighboring cities including Tangier, Oujda, Marrakesh and Al-Hoceima.
Seized foodstuff of this nature totaled approximately 130 tons and consisted of dates, pasta, juice, jam, chocolate, canned tomatoes, mineral water, popcorn and a variety of sweets
