Rabat - Police in southern Agadir arrested over the weekend two girls for "violating public decency" after their outfits were deemed inappropriate.
According to daily newspaper Al Sabah, police in Inezgane (southern Agadir) arrested on Sunday near the city's weekly Souk two girls whose outfits were considered "indecent".
Human rights activists in the city denounced the arrest of the two girls based on their clothing, saying the incident was a "setback to individual rights guaranteed by the constitution."
President of the Moroccan Association of Human Rights in Agadir Abdelaziz Sellami told the newspaper that the arrest of the two girls was "a flagrant transgression of individual freedoms."
He added that the Moroccan law does not define criteria for dress code and appearance or what is considered to be indecent dressing.
The two girls, who work in a hair salon, will appear before court on July 6th for the first hearing.
