The British Ambassador to Morocco Clive Alderton said that his country supports reforms of King Mohamed VI and the Moroccan government, pointing out that the volume of trade between Morocco and Britain exceeded one billion pounds for the first time, Sky NewsArabia reported on Wednesday.
He added that the series of reforms and the determination of Morocco to implement them fall into the framework of efforts aimed to strengthen the partnership of Morocco with the United kingdom and the European Union.
Mr. Alderton went on to say that everyone agrees there is still much to be done to implement the constitution of 2011, stressing that the UK is proud to work in partnership with Morocco in this regard.
The ambassador pointed out that the volume of trade between Morocco and Britain exceeded one billion pounds for the first time in 2012, while total business operations between the two countries reached 5.1 billion pounds , according to the news agency " DPA ."
He also expressed his country’s readiness to provide assistance and expertise to contribute to the development of the financial city of Casablanca as a regional hub , including the development of partnership between the city and the center of International Financial Services in London.
In a report published by the German news agency, the British ambassador emphasized, that his country's relations with Morocco are "strong" , referring to the celebration of 800 years of diplomatic ties between the two partners in broad projects and issues that include trade and business. In the same regard, he stated that one of his most important objectives is raising the proportion of business between the two countries.
On the other hand, the British ambassador explained that Morocco is the most important beneficiary of Deauville partnership with Arab countries.
Deauville Partnership is an international effort launched by the G-8 at the Leaders Meeting in Deauville, France in 2011, to support countries in the Arab world engaged in transitions toward “free, democratic and tolerant societies.”
The Partnership includes Canada, Egypt, the European Union, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Libya, Kuwait, Morocco, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom and the United States. It also includes international financial institutions and organizations committed to supporting reform in Egypt, Jordan, Libya, Morocco and Tunisia.
The British Ambassador went on to explain in the report which is expected to be published next week on the websites of the British embassies to the Arab world that the practical support provided by the United kingdom via the Arab Partnership and Deauville Partnership has had a real impact on the ground”.
