Fez - Cadi Ayyad University in Marrakech ranks 59 of the best 100 universities and educational institutions around the world for 2015, according to a study by British magazine "Times Higher Education."
The Moroccan university tops the list of all universities included from the Arab world.
The study compares newer universities that are under fifty years old based on thirteen performance indicators about the learning environment, research quality, influence and excellence among its peers, and its ability to help industry with innovations.
The report indicates that some of these newer universities have made progress ranking further up the list this year, while others have retreated. The list features sixteen universities from Australia, outnumbering Britain’s fifteen, while East Asian universities continued their progress to compete with the best Anglo-American ones.
The "Polytechnic" federal school in Lausanne, Switzerland topped the list at number 1, followed by Pohang University of Science and Technology in Seoul, while Republic of Korea’s Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology ranked third.
The USA and Germany each had seven universities on the list, while Spain and France had six and five universities respectively.
The report praised the significant and rapid progress that Spanish universities have made. The Autonomous University of Madrid was in fifty-eighth position last year, but now is in forty-sixth place.
