The Jordanian ambassador to the UN, Dina Kawar

United Nations - Jordan hailed, on Tuesday at the UN headquarters in New York, the autonomy plan and the efforts of the Kingdom to promote the culture of human rights in Moroccan southern provinces (the so-called Western Sahara) and the development dynamics.

The Jordanian ambassador to the UN, Dina Kawar, who was speaking before the Security Council following the adoption of Resolution 2218 extending by one year the MINURSO mandate until April 30, 2016, reiterated its country's position vis-à-vis the autonomy plan proposed by Morocco to solve the Sahara issue, deeming it "serious and credible".

She also commended the "substantial" efforts made by the Kingdom in the field of promoting human rights and development in the Sahara.

Kawar, whose country holds the Security Council presidency for the month of April, noted that the vote of Jordan in favor of Resolution 2218 is motivated by its conviction that the "sincere" implementation of all the provisions of the resolution by the parties concerned will lead to a just and lasting solution to the Sahara issue.
