Rabat - Senegal reaffirmed on Thursday in Jakarta its "firm" support to Morocco's proposal to grant large sovereignty to its southern provinces (the so-called Western Sahara) while maintaining its sovereignty and the integrity of its territory.
In a speech before participants at the Asia-Africa Summit, held in the Indonesian capital, the head of the Senegalese delegation stressed that his country continues to support the autonomy project in the Moroccan Sahara, recalling that the United Nations has repeatedly called the proposal "serious and credible".
After underlining that the Sahara issue is a problem of integrity of the Kingdom's territory, the head of the Senegalese delegation reaffirmed that his country's stance is "clear and firm".
Held under the theme "Strengthening South-South Cooperation to Promote World Peace and Prosperity", the Asia-Africa summit is meant to share experience and strengthen partnerships, discuss strategies to overcome common challenges and boost economic development in both continents.
The Asia-Africa Summit is also an opportunity to reflect on means to foster cooperation between Africa and Asia in various fields and ensure a better future, in keeping with the spirit of the strategic Asian-African partnership signed in 2005 in Bandung.
