Washington - The Moroccan-American friendship is "a fundamental basis which will allow us to cope with the complex changes in today's world", Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Salaheddine Mezouar said, here Thursday, at the opening of the 3rd session of the Morocco-US strategic dialogue.
The minister, who co-chaired the session with US State Secretary John Kerry, hailed the "excellent" relations between the two countries that "share the same universal values of freedom, democracy and peace, values which enable us to work together in serenity on fundamental issues.
"Morocco today is a country proud of its values, its identity, its civilizational roots, a forward looking country that is aware of its potential", Mezouar said, adding that Morocco stands out as a "haven in a regional environment plagued by instability and turmoil".
He also stressed that Morocco has shown high availability by sharing its experience with other countries in the fight against extremism.
In this regard, the minister pointed out that "there is no religious war, no civilizational war, but a war against ignorance".
Regarding the issue of the Moroccan Sahara, Mezouar said Morocco has provided solutions and concrete answers through its autonomy proposal, a plan that promotes integration and facilitation for building a Maghreb space.
"Morocco seeks to move forward and we would like to thank you for your commitment to this virtuous circle that we want for the region so as to solve this artificial problem created forty years ago," he said.
