Rabat - Two Moroccan women were convicted for taking part in a sex-and-booze party onboard a yacht anchored at Dubai Marina, Khaleej Times reported.
The Moroccan nationals were among a group of twenty-eight people, including 15 men and 13 women, who were arrested by the Emirati authorities while in a sex and alcohol party that was being thrown on a yacht at Dubai Marina on October 10 last year.
In addition to the two Moroccan women, the defendants included 11 women: eight Emiratis, one Yemeni, one Omani, and one Saudi. The men included 11 Emiratis, two Iranians and two from the Comoros Islands.
According to the same source, all the accused were fined Dh 2,000 each for "getting together while unrelated in a way that would lure them into acts of sin."
A Dubai Court ordered nine of them to pay an additional fine of Dh 2,000 each for alcohol consumption without a license.
A 31-year-old Emirati, who is believed to have arranged the yacht party, was reportedly cleared of the charge of alcohol possession.
Five of the defendants, two men and three women, were sentenced to one year in prison for having consensual sex out of wedlock. Expatriates will deported after completing their prison sentences, the source added.
The police searched the yacht and seized about 110 bottles of alcohol and bedsheets and other pieces of evidence for forensic tests.
