Rabat- Chief of Government Abdelilah Benkirane's approval rating hit 60 percent for the first time since the summer of 2013. His approval rating has risen eleven percentage points just a few months into the regional and municipal elections, according to a new Tizi/Averty poll.
The last time Benkirane hit the 60 percent mark was in July 2013. The poll, whose content has been reported by news website Media24, has shown Benkirane's approval rating getting slightly better. The poll shows that 62 percent of people surveyed in 2015 are still satisfied with the job Benkirane is doing as chief of government, compared with 51 percent in July, 2014.
Benkirane's approval numbers are mainly driven by the youth. According to the poll, 70 percent of people aged between 18 and 24 still trust Abdelilah Benkirane, while 63 percent are the people aged between 25 and 35, and 64 percent for the people aged between 44 and 55-years-old. Overall, 58 percent of the Moroccans surveyed by the poll believe that Benkirane has not fallen short of their expectations.
The poll has also revealed the names of the other ministers in Benkirane's cabinet who are most appreciated by their fellow Moroccans. Aziz Akhannouch, Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries scored the highest with 7.2 out of 10. He is followed by Health Minister Lhoucine Louardi with a score of 6.8 out of 10, Mbarka Bouaida, Minister Delegate to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation 6.7 out of 10, Justice Minister Mustapha Ramid 6.3 out of 10 and Moulay Hafid Elalamy, Minister of Industry, Trade, Investment and the Digital Economy with a score of 6.2 out of 10.
As for the most "famed" ministers, Mohamed El Ouafa, Minister of General Affairs and Governance comes first with 80 percent of the votes. He is followed by Communication Minister Mustapha El Khalfi (76%), Transport and Logistics Minister Aziz Rabbah (75%), Health Minister Lhoucine Louardi (75%) and Nabil Ben Abdellah Minister of Housing and Urbanism (74%).
The poll was conducted by Averty Market Research & Intelligence, an independent pollster and a member of the World Association of Market Research (ESOMAR), in partnership with independent citizen's network Tizi. The poll surveyed 1,086 respondents online between January and February, 2015 in 39 Moroccan cities.
Another survey conducted earlier this year by L’Economiste-Sunergia showed that Benkirane enjoys a wide popularity among the Moroccans, compared to his predecessors and political opponents. He was voted the best Prime Minister by 37% of the respondents surveyed by the French-speaking daily newspaper.
