2,500 Moroccans Are Fighting With ISIS Terrorists

Rabat - As many as 2,500 Moroccan fighters are currently engaged in the Islamic State war zone, according to data compiled by a leading US-based organization tracking the terrorist organization the Islamic State, also known as ISIS or ISIL.

The data quoted by Indian media has revealed that the largest number of foreign fighters fighting for the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria are from Saudi Arabia.

The Saudi fighters account for nearly 3,000 fighters, besides over 2,755 Russian, 2500 Moroccans and nearly 1500 Jordanians.

Among the western countries, 700 fighters have come in from the United Kingdom, 500 from Germany, 400 from Belgium and 350 from the Netherlands.

The data quoted by Indian media suggested that the Moroccans fighting in the ranks of the Islamic State (IS) have increased in numbers to reach 2,500, while a recent report published by the British Bio Centre had estimated their number at 1,500 fighters.

The Moroccan Interior Ministry had also said that nearly 3,000 Moroccan jihadists are fighting under the umbrella of the Islamic State. 2,000 of those have other nationalities mainly of European countries.
