Western Sahara

Athens-  All the efforts made by Morocco to achieve its national unity, hampered by the Spanish occupation, have been legal actions given the historical rights of the Kingdom in the region, says a recent Greek academic study on Western the Sahara conflict.

The analysis of the conflict from the perspective of "historic rights" confirms, without any doubt, the legal right of Morocco on the territory, the study says, adding that this fact, form a 'political science' perspective, could make a difference in understanding, throughout the world, the essence of the dispute.

The study, entitled "The issue of historical rights in the case of Moroccan/Western Sahara", was conducted by Greek academic Konstantinos Koliopoulos, professor of international politics and strategic studies at the Panteion University in Athens and professor of strategic studies at the Greek Institute of National Defense.

The author of this study (40 pages), published by the Institute of Political Studies of the Panteion University, argued that the historical rights are at the heart of this conflict, despite its multidimensional nature related to the number of political issues and its large-scale international spinoffs.

The main result of this analysis undoubtedly confirms the immutable historical rights of the Kingdom on its Sahara, Professor Koliopoulos notes.

This study is based on the analysis of research foundations and instruments in the concept of "historic rights", i.e. power, ethnicity and origin, in addition to a fourth secondary criteria (neighborhood).
