Rabat  -  The tourism sector achieved positive and overall encouraging results in 2014 despite a slowdown in the past few months, said, on Tuesday in Rabat, tourism minister Lahcen Haddad.

Over Jan-Jul period of 2014, this industry posted a rise of 2.4% in Morocco's tourist arrivals year on year, said Haddad answering a question on tourism decline in the past few months at the house of advisors.

The minister also noted a drop in the number of visitors and overnight stays since last August, explaining it by the fall in French tourists arrivals due to France's warning against visiting some Arab countries, the Paris terrorist shootings and the Ebola epidemic.

To face this situation, mainly the decline concerning the French market, the minister said that an operational plan worth 100 mln dirham was set up to enhance Morocco's main tourist destinations through awareness-raising campaigns and communication.
