Real Madrid Expresses Concerns Over Rabat's Pitch Conditions

Rabat - The international Player's Union reportedly asked the world's governing body of football (FIFA) to investigate why the Club World Cup match between Cruz Azul and Sydney Wanderers was played on the potentially dangerous rain-soaked field of Moulay Abdellah stadium in Rabat.

The players' union, known as FIFPro, said that letting the Quarter final clash between the Mexican side of Cruz Azul and Western Sydney Wanderers from Australia continue 'posed a serious threat to the health and safety of all players.'

"Players as workers have a right to a safe work environment," FIFPro official Tjis Tummers was quoted as saying by the Associated Press.

"FIFA must ensure effective rules are in place to prevent a repetition," he added.

Ivorian referee Noumandiez Doue allowed the match to continue despite the large water pools that appeared on the Moulay Abdellah pitch.

Real Madrid match against Cruz Azul was moved to Marrakech for safety reasons.
