Rabat - The new compound of the US embassy in Rabat was officially inaugurated, on Tuesday, in the presence of HM the King's advisors Zoulikha Nassiri, Taieb Fassi Fihri and Omar El Kabbaj, head of government Abdelilah Benkirane, several cabinet members and representatives of diplomatic corps accredited to Morocco.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Benkirane lauded the close and long-standing relations between Morocco and the USA. He also underlined the importance of the strategic dialogue between the two partner countries and the results of the royal visit to Washington (Nov. 2013) which was crowned by the summit meeting at the White House by HM King Mohammed VI and President Barack Obama.
The head of government reiterated Morocco's keenness to further bilateral ties on the basis of a far-sighted vision seeking to promote peace and stability in the world.
US ambassador in Rabat Dwight Bush said that this project reflects the historical friendship and the privileged relations between the USA and Morocco. He added that the Kingdom was the first country to recognize the independence of the States in 1777.
Planned as a 3-year building project with a total project budget of 181 million dollars, the construction of the new embassy finished 4 months ahead of schedule and under budget (181 mln dollars). The project created around 2,000 jobs and workers performed over 3 million hours of skilled and unskilled labor.
