Marrakech - King Mohammed VI has once again highlighted the role that education can play in developing creativity, critical thinking and responsiveness.
In his letter addressed to the official opening session of the 5th Global Entrepreneurship Summit in Marrakech, King Mohammed VI said that "one is not born entrepreneur; one becomes an entrepreneur by embarking on the road to success in an interactive process involving hard work, learning and a capacity to deal with challenges."
The monarch said, in the letter read by the Moroccan Prime Minister Abdelillah Benkirane on Thursday that the spirit of entrepreneurship is about challenging archaic notions and established ideas.
"Entrepreneurs are people who challenge the established order and the status quo. They do not hesitate to respond – at their own level – to needs that are yet to be identified, that are unmet or that are new" the King said.
Mohammed VI highlighted in his letter the importance of education saying that it is the window for prosperity.
"Education is an essential step, a prerequisite for the maturation process that leads people to think critically and to hone their skills so that they are able to seize an economic, technological or social opportunity when they see one."
In this regard, the monarch called for a new approach in education that focuses on developing the faculties of critical and innovative thinking.
"Therefore, it is up to us to provide future generations with an education that goes beyond the mere ‘accumulation-transmission’ process in order to develop creativity, responsiveness and inventiveness," the king stressed.
The GES Summit was launched by the United States in 2009 following President Barack Obama's speech in Cairo.
