New York - UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs Jeffrey Feltman welcomed, Tuesday in New York, Morocco's efforts in fighting against extremism, notably the initiative of King Mohammed VI to train African Imams.
"On behalf of the Secretariat of the United Nations, I would like to thank the Kingdom of Morocco for this initiative which comes at an opportune time," Feltman was quoted by Maghreb Arab Press (MAP) as saying.
Feltman said that Mohammed VI's initiative is in line with the efforts of the international community to address the growing threat of violent extremism worldwide.
The UN official was speaking on the sidelines of a high-level meeting of the UN Counter-Terrorism Committee (CTC) of the UN Security Council dedicated to "Countering incitement to terrorist acts motivated by extremism or intolerance: Morocco’s approach and experiences of other African states."
