Taroudant, Morocco -
Munir El Haddadi, Barcelona forward, said Monday evening after their 5-1 win over Macedonia that his Spain debut was a "dream come true".
The 19-year-old Barcelona forward has been harshly criticised for not choosing to represent Morocco, the country of his parents, but the striker prefers to play for the country of his birth, insisting that he always intended to represent la Roja.
"To play for Spain was my own decision. I knew what it meant (ruling out a future Morocco appearance) to appear for Spain. This is a childhood dream come true," Haddadi was quoted by Goal as saying
Following his decision to join the Spanish squad, Morocco's coach Badou Zaki expressed his disappointment, saying, "Patriotism is not something to negotiate".
In a recent Survey conducted by
MARCA, Spaniards do not seem to be very excited about the arrival of Haddadi to the Spanish squad.
