Texas Man Convicted in Crash that Claimed the Lives of a Moroccan Family

Rabat- A Texan was found guilty by a state district judge in Fort Worth, Texas of intoxication manslaughter in a drunken-driving crash that killed a Moroccan family of three, including an 11-month-old infant.

According to media reports, the Texas man, Benjamon Todd Stewart, 43, was convicted of three counts of intoxication manslaughter and one of failure to stop and render aid following charges that stem from the July 2013 deaths in Arlington, Texas of Moroccan couple Najib Intidam, 40, his wife Hanane, 27, and their 11-month-old daughter Nour El Houda.

Benjamon, a truck driver, rear-ended the car of the Moroccan family along I-30 near the Fielder Road exit in Arlington.

Najib Intidam died at the scene of the crash. His daughter and wife were moved to Arlington Memorial Hospital where they later died.

Authorities said that after the crash Benjamon Stewart hid in nearby trees and watched as emergency workers responded to the deadly scene. Investigators used thermal imaging to locate Stewart.

Prosecutors said his blood-alcohol concentration was three and a half times the legal limit.

Stewart could be sentenced to as much as 20 years in prison for each manslaughter count and an additional 10 years for failure to stop and render aid.
