Marrakesh- The Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, which is one of the largest Islamic organizations specializing in culture education and science based in Rabat, has denied that the tomb of the Prophet Mohammed is to be moved from its current location in the Medina mosque, which was the subject of a report in the British daily The Independent on Monday.
In an article published on Monday, The Independent’s journalist Andrew Jackson said that the Prophet’s body could be removed to an unmarked grave in the al-Baqi cemetery, according to a 60-page consultative document said to have been circulated among the supervisors of the al-Masjid al-Nabawi mosque in Medina where the Prophet’s remains are laid beneath the green dome.
Andrew Jackson stressed that no decision had actually been made.
In a communiqué IESESCO vigorously denied the allegations, which it said were designed to create divisions within the Islamic faith.
