WASHINGTON, D.C.- Fighting in Gaza continued throughout Tuesday, bringing the death toll to exceed 600, mostly civilian
The latest numbers show that 637 Palestinians have been killed and 28 Israelis, including two civilians. More than 4,00 Palestinians are injured of whom approximately 1,100 are children and 1,153 are women. Since the launch of the ground offensive, over 120,000 people have fled their homes.
According to a situation report produced by United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, “one child has been killed in Gaza every hour for the past two days.”
Despite the massive civilian casualties, neither the Israeli Defense Force nor Hamas are backing down.
Both UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and Secretary of State John Kerry arrived in Egypt for talks about brokering a cease-fire.
The prime minister of the new unity government between Hamas and Fatah said, “We demand justice for our people, who everyday and since the beginning of the Israeli occupation have been subject to the occupation for 47 years, “he said in an interview with BBC.
Hamas has said it will not agree with a ceasefire that doesn’t allow for “freer movement of goods and people across the border,” according to BBC.
