Nouakchott - June 19, 2013 (MAP)
Mustapha Salma Ould Sidi Mouloud, a Sahrawi rights activist who has been on hunger strike since last May 20 in front of the High commissioner for refugees office in Nouakchott, was urgently taken on Tuesday night to hospital after his health deteriorated.
Mustapha Salma passed out after severe low blood pressure resulting from his hunger strike.
The activist who wanted to visit his family in the Tindouf camps (stronghold of the Polisario in southwestern Algeria) was kidnapped in September 2010 at a check point. After being kept in a secret location, he was deported to Mauritania for having supported the Moroccan autonomy plan for the Sahara.
Since last may 20, he has been on hunger strike in Nouakchott to claim his right to visit with his family and to have a passport.
Several Moroccan and Mauritanian non-governmental organizations have visited Ould Sidi Mouloud and expressed support to the case of this man deprived of his passport and of his right to live with his wife, kids and family.
