Casabanca- Four Moroccan fishermen were reported missing this week after they shipwrecked off the coast of the Strait of Gibraltar, between Tangier and the Spanish city of Tarifa, according to Spanish newspaper ABC.
The traditional fishing trawler was carrying seven men originally, but only three were saved by the Moroccan Royal Navy Forces, whereas the remaining four (a technician and two draggers) are still missing, according to the same source.
The three rescued crew members were immediately taken to Mohammed V Hospital in Tangier to receive necessary treatment. The Moroccan Royal Navy and rescue teams are still searching for the missing four. However, now that 25 hours have elapsed since the four men were reported missing, there is no hope they would have survived the frozen waters of the Strait of Gibraltar, according to the same source.
According to ABC, a similar incident took place on June 25th, when a fishing trawler carrying six people shipwrecked off the coast of Safi. The six crew members are still missing.
