Agadir - Felipe Scolari’s side produced an incredible comeback against Croatia in the opening game of the 2014 World Cup on Thursday thanks to a double from the Barcelona ace Neymar and another goal by Oscar in the dying moments of the match to snatch their very first victory from the jaws of defeat.
The Selecao entered the game with determination to make sure the precious trophy never leaves the land of Samba, yet the aspirations of Scolari’s men had been quickly shattered by an early own goal at the 11th minute by Brazilian defender Marcelo.
Brazilian players collided with an impenetrable defensive line from Croatia and missed a host of chances to equalize until Neymar translated the team effort into a beautiful goal whose accuracy left Croatia’s keeper helpless.
The 22-year-old seemed willing to mark his World Cup debut as he scored his second goal from a controversial penalty after Dejan Lovren was involved with Fluminense’s forward Fred.
And before the referee’s whistle, Oscar sealed the victory with a third goal giving Brazil three points and temporarily leading Group A including also Cameroon and Mexico.
