Amsterdam - Defending the rights acquired by Moroccan expatriates is at the core of the Moroccan government's concerns, said minister in charge of the Moroccan community abroad and of migration affairs, Anis Birou.
Birou who met on Monday in Amsterdam with members of the Moroccan community settled in this European country expressed his department's readiness to endeavor in consultation with expatriates associations and diplomatic representations for the implementation of a strategy geared to improving communication in order to contribute to solving the problems faced by Moroccans living overseas.
After underscoring sacrifices made by the first generation of Moroccan migrants to secure a better future to their descendants and build the Netherlands, the minister urged for granting utmost importance to the third and fourth generations of Moroccan migrants born in the host country and who are the future of Morocco and the Netherlands.
Birou also stressed that his department is intensifying efforts to inter-connect Moroccan skills abroad in order to benefit from their know-how and professional experience and facilitate contacts between them and their home country.
The minister who started on Sunday a four-day visit to Morocco also met with mayor of Amsterdam Eberhard van der Laan over means to fight school dropping among children of Moroccan origin and the effects of the recent racist and debasing remarks made by Dutch far right leader Geert Wilders.
The Moroccan official praised the Mayor who denounced the anti-Moroccan remarks of the far-right leader.
