Rabat - Negotiations between Morocco and the European Union (EU) about the conditions of access of Moroccan fruits and vegetables to the European market continues, and the government is committed to defending the interests of Moroccan farmers, said minister of communication and government spokesman, Mustapha El Khalfi.
"Recognizing the potential impact of changing the system of access price of Moroccan fruits and vegetables into the EU market, the government works on an agreement to preserve the competitiveness of national agricultural products and defend the interests of Moroccan farmers," noted El Khalfi during a press conference following the cabinet meeting, held Friday in Rabat, under the chairmanship of head of government, Abdelilah Benkirane. "The stakes are high. The tomato sector is threatened by the loss of 30,000 direct and indirect jobs, and the impact of EU reforms could cause, if any, the loss of 130,000 tons of this product," warned El Khalfi.
