Morocco is ready to share its national counter-terror experience with African states, Foreign minister Saad Dine El Otmani said on Monday in New York.
Morocco is ready to share its experience with African states as part of a "constructive partnership for which we all aspire to face growing security threats nationally, internationally and regionally," the minister said at the UNSC.
El Otmani was speaking during a UNSC meeting on "Peace and Security in Africa: the challenges of the fight against terrorism in Africa in the context of maintaining international peace and security", held upon the initiative of Togo which chairs the Council for the month of May.
Pursuant to its unwavering commitment to foster security in Africa, Morocco adhered for decades to efforts seeking to strengthen cooperation between African countries to fight terrorism and cross-border organized crime through a series of actions, said the minister in the meeting chaired by Togolese head of state Faure Gnassingbé.
Among these actions, the minister cited the initiative of African States Bordering the Atlantic (launched in Rabat in August 2009) and the holding in the Kingdom of the Conference of Ministers of Justice of French-speaking African countries with the aim of encouraging adherence to international conventions to counter terror.
On the humanitarian side, the minister highlighted the initiatives undertaken by HM King Mohammed VI to strengthen support for refugees in several Sahel-Saharan countries, particularly for Malian refugees.
