Washington - US Secretary of state John Kerry will visit Morocco this April 4 - 5 to co-chair with Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs and cooperation, Salaheddine Mezouar, the 2nd session of the Morocco-US strategic dialog.

The session, themed "consolidating the sound cooperation ties between the two countries" will be an opportunity for the two sides to promote partnership in political, economic, social, educational and cultural fields, said on Monday a release of the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation.

The meeting will open new horizons in bilateral ties, in keeping with recommendations outlined in the joint communiqué adopted following the summit talks held in November 2013 in Washington between King Mohammed VI and US president Barack Obama.

After the first session of the strategic dialog held in September 2012, the second session comes to illustrate the excellent friendship and longstanding relations binding the two countries that share the same values and same interests, the release points out.

The session will also be an opportunity to deepen political consultation on bilateral, regional and international issues, says the source.

During the King's visit to Washington, the two heads of state emphasized "their shared commitment to the special and longstanding relationship between the United States and the Kingdom of Morocco, which in 1777 became the first nation to recognize the independence of the United States."

The two leaders also "reaffirmed their commitment to stay in close contact and to continue on a path of increased cooperation that will strengthen the United States-Morocco strategic partnership, including the next meeting of the U.S.-Morocco Strategic Dialogue in Rabat.
