Geneva - The UNHRC adopted on Friday a draft resolution on technical assistance to Libya in the field of human rights presented by Morocco and supported by 98 delegations.
This resolution, which was submitted to the council on behalf of Morocco and Libya, seeks to meet the needs of this Maghreb country in terms of technical assistance and capacity building.
Speaking before the UNHRC, Morocco's Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva, Ambassador Omar Hilale, stressed that the draft resolution comes at a crucial time as Libya has made significant progress in the promotion of human rights, as evidenced by the report of the High Commissioner for Human rights.
At the same time, Libya faces significant security challenges to stabilize the country in addition to weak state institutions, he added.
The Ambassador noted that the international community, especially the UNHRC, should continue to support Libya in its efforts to consolidate democracy and essential bodies for the rule of law.
